Subluxation

The spine consists of 24 vertebrae—seven cervical, 12 thoracic and five lumbar—and if any one of these become misaligned or moves out of its normal position, it is called a subluxation. These subluxations can be caused by a wide variety of factors, including minor slips or bumps, car accidents or sudden trauma. Once a subluxation forms, it can put pressure on nerves, blood vessels and everything around it, which interrupts the natural pathways the nervous system uses to send messages between the brain and the rest of the body.

If a subluxation goes untreated, the spine and surrounding features, such as discs, can actually begin to degenerate, which becomes more difficult to reverse as surrounding muscles, nerves and bones adjust to the new shape. As this happens, the body will accommodate these structural changes by compensating in other areas. Compensation can lead to more injuries and ailments throughout your body.

Regular chiropractic treatment at our office with Dr. Christopher Brill in Newport News, VA is an effective treatment for subluxation. By utilizing his hands, he can adjust your spine with quick movements to move the vertebrae back into place and remove the interference from you body’s natural healing ability. The process is without discomfort.
