What To Expecting During Your First Appointment

For those who have never experienced chiropractic care before, it is hard to know what to expect. Dr. Christopher Brill of Therapeutic Solutions, LLC in Newport News, VA wants to provide information to his future patients about what to expect during their first appointment. Knowing what to expect can make an appointment go smoother and can help diminish some of those first appointment jitters.

When first coming to Therapeutic Solutions, LLC, our goal will be to completely understand your current condition and where you would like to be. This will help us understand your body and create a customized treatment plan we can start.

Knowing your history will help us better understand your body. We will discuss any physical conditions, past trauma, and past pain. We will then discuss your current level of health and talk about your goals. A physical examination, probably including x-rays, will then be performed. Using our discussions, our physical findings, and the results of the x-rays, we will come up with a customized plan to put your body back on track to a healthy and full lifestyle.

Neck Pain: Causes and How Chiropractic Care Can Help

Neck pain is something that can stop an entire day’s activities. For neck pain that is controlling your life, turn to Therapeutic Solutions, LLC located in Newport News, VA. Chiropractic care can help you understand where the pain is coming from and how to relieve it.

Neck pain can be caused from a variety of things. A small slip or a major car accident are two drastically different events but they can both do major harm to the cervical spine and the surrounding structures. In addition to accidents, neck pain can result from degenerative disorders or even just bad posture habits. Neck pain can even come from a small accident that may have happened years ago. Accidents, disorders in the spine, and poor posture can all lead to misalignments in the cervical spine’s joints.

Chiropractic care at Therapeutic Solutions will begin with a full examination of the area. It will be useful to know how long the pain has been around, what has been done to relieve pain, and if anything makes it better or worse. A customized treatment plan will then be created to get you back on track. Through spinal adjustments and therapeutic exercise, we will have you feeling better and able to prevent further injury.

Tips for Good Posture

Poor posture can lead to strained muscles and a curved spine. It is important to keep good posture while sitting and standing. This is why Therapeutic Solutions, LLC of Newport News, VA wants to give some tips for proper posture.

The first step of attaining proper posture is to make sure your spine is in line. When standing, make sure to stand tall with your shoulders back. Tuck your stomach in, and let your arms hang naturally beside you. To make sure you head is in line with your spine, check to see that your earlobes are in line with your shoulders. When sitting, make sure your feet are flat on the floor and your knees are at the same level or lower than your hips. Do not cross your legs and remember to relax your shoulders. When sitting in a chair for a long period of time, make sure it has good low and mid-back support.

The second part of having good posture is having strong muscles to support it. To stand tall with pulled back shoulders, try this trapezius exercise daily: Lie on your stomach with your arms flat on the floor in a ninety degree angle. (In the high-five position). Lift both arms up vertically by activating the muscles between your shoulder blades. Hold for five seconds and release. Do this twelve times, two to three times daily.

Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain is a very common condition, but the symptoms and severity of the pain vary greatly depending on the situation. While a lower back muscle strain might be excruciating enough to visit the emergency room while a degenerating disc might only cause mild, intermittent discomfort. Dr. Christopher Brill of Therapeutic Solutions LLC in Newport News, VA is an expert in his field, and has been treating his patients of all ages and sizes for a number of years.

According to the American Chiropractic Association, one-half of all working Americans admit to having back pain symptoms each year. Your back is a complicated structure of bones, joints, ligaments and muscles, while it is basically the support system for your entire body, your back can be very fragile. Back pain is often associated with sprained ligaments, strained muscles, ruptured discs and irritated joints. In many cases, these injuries are sustained by athletes participating in contact sports, but pain can also come to those who sit in the same position for the majority of the day, have poor posture and overuse.

Dr. Brill has been practicing in Newport News, VA for a number of years and has developed a unique treatment plan for patients suffering from lower back pain. Through the use of manipulation and adjustments, Dr. Brill will safely and effectively relieve the patient from their back pain. In some cases, the treatment will work right away but in others, patients will need multiple visits to treat the pain and prevent it from coming back in the future. In a study conducted by the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, researchers recommended that low back pain sufferers choose chiropractic care because it is the most conservative approach.

Chiropractic for Rotator Cuff Tears

Tearing the rotator cuff can be a painful and debilitating injury. Many may think the first option they have to repair a tear would be surgery. Here at Therapeutic Solutions, LLC in Newport News, VA, we believe there are other ways to heal and relieve pain besides surgery.

The rotator cuff is the group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint. They keep the ball of the humerus (the upper arm bone) firmly into the shoulder socket. Many who have torn their rotator cuff have done so due to repetitive overhead lifting. They are also commonly caused by long-term heavy lifting and bone spurs in the bones of the shoulders. Sports like tennis and baseball, as well as occupations like carpenters are commonly associated with rotator cuff tears, as well. Most that tear a rotator cuff are over the age of forty.

Although keeping your shoulder immobilized allows rest and pain relief, it could allow the connective tissue within the joint to thicken and tighten. This is a condition referred to as frozen shoulder.

Physical therapy can help the rotator cuff regain flexibility and strength without surgery. Along with adjustments of the spine and joints associated with the rotator cuff, massage and stretching can help the rotator cuff return to normal function.

If you have trouble reaching over your head, behind your back, a dull ache in the shoulder or difficulty sleeping on the affected shoulder, you could have a rotator cuff tear.
