Electric Muscle Stimulation

If you are dealing with acute or chronic pain, electric muscle stimulation is often not the first treatment option presented to you, but it is effective. More common than that, people ignore their injury or try to prevent the pain with medication. At Therapeutic Solutions LLC, we provide patients with EMS treatment and have great success healing patient’s neck, back and joint pain.

EMS treatment mimics the body’s nervous system by sending low frequency electrical pulses to the affected area. This will cause he muscles to contract and increase the blood circulation to the area. By utilizing and encouraging the body’s natural healing mechanisms, Dr. Christopher Brill is able to drastically reduce patient’s dependence on medications and unnecessary surgeries to resolve painful symptoms.

EMS therapy is a great tool for patients with the following conditions:
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Muscle Atrophy
  • Muscle Spasms
  • Sciatica
  • Sports Injuries
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Ulcer
EMS is a great tool for chiropractors. If you are suffering from any of the above conditions, call Dr. Brill to schedule an appointment 757-873-4131. You can also visit www.therapeutic-solutions-llc.com to learn more about other services Dr. Brill offers.

Cryotherapy

For those suffering with spasms and haven’t found the relief they’re looking for, it might be time to look into cryotherapy. At Therapeutic Solutions LLC, we have adopted this new technology in order to better treat our patients.

Cryotherapy is a procedure that helps numb painful areas as well as provides a cooling relief to the affected soft tissues. Cold applied to the area decreases the flow of this fluid into the tissues and slows the release of chemicals that cause pain. Cold decreases feeling in an area by reducing the ability of the nerve endings to conduct impulses.

Cold compresses are used to reduce bleeding and swelling within the injured tissue and is best used within 48 hours of your injury. Cryotherapy should not be used for patients who have the following:
  1. Circulation problems
  2. Are unconscious
  3. Those who cannot feel cold (numbness)
  4. Allergies
For those who do qualify, cryotherapy is a great solution for your back spasm and soft tissue injury problems. Cryotherapy is an excellent solution when it comes to reducing swelling and further injury in the early stages of the healing process.  For more information about our office or cryotherapy, please visit: www.therapeutic-solutions-llc.com or call us at 757-873-4131.

Benefits of Chiropractic Care and Mothers to Be

At Therapeutic Solutions LLC, we are highly trained in prenatal chiropractic care. Most people don’t see the connection between chiropractic and pregnancy, but ask any mother who has gone through a pregnancy with chiropractic care at least once, and she will tell you that chiropractic care makes pregnancy and delivery easier and faster. The biggest concern mothers-to-be have is whether or not chiropractic care will hurt the baby. Simply put, no, it will not harm your baby. Dr. Christopher Brill has the knowledge and experience in treating pregnant women with chiropractic care and uses special approaches to make his adjustments safe and comfortable for you and your child.

Many medical experts recommend chiropractic care during pregnancy because it helps maintain pelvic balance. A balanced pelvis gives a baby more room to move into the correct birth position. This avoids some of the potential fallbacks of delivery. Other benefits include:
  • Reducing back, neck and joint pain
  • Relieving pressure from the spine and maintaining better posture
  • Reducing nerve stress to promote healthy development of the mother and baby
  • Correcting a breech baby
  • Restoring joints to ensure optimum range of motion
Dr. Brill provides chiropractic care for pregnant women that include an examination of the spinal column for spinal distortions or imbalances, known as vertebral subluxations, which can affect the function of the entire body. If Dr. Brill finds subluxations in your body, he will correct them by using chiropractic spinal adjustments.

Whiplash Injuries

Whiplash is an injury that occurs in a person's neck following a sudden acceleration-deceleration force that causes unrestrained, rapid forward and backward movement of the head and neck. This injury is commonly ignored or mistreated because patients do not always seek treatment following the event. Our staff and of course, Dr. Christopher Brill, specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of whiplash injuries.

This condition can be very painful if left untreated. Fortunately, this is not a life threatening injury but it can lead to future disability. While most people involved in a car accident recover quickly without and chronic pain, some will experience symptoms for years after the injury. The most common symptoms associated with whiplash include:
  • Pain or stiffness in the neck
  • Headaches
  • Shoulder pain
  • Dizziness
  • General weakness in the arms and neck
Immediately following an accident, patients should seek a consultation with Dr. Brill. His extensive training in the field has provided him the opportunity to immediately diagnose and treat whiplash. Whiplash is considered a soft-tissue injury, meaning there is no structural damage, just damage to the muscles, ligaments and tendons in the injured area. Whiplash is easily treatable through chiropractic care.

Dr. Brill will treat whiplash through various spinal manipulations, muscle relaxation or stimulation, exercise routines and lifestyle changes. For more information visit our website at www.therapeutic-solutions-llc.com or feel free to contact Dr. Brill & staff at 757-873-4131.

Diversified Technique

Diversified technique is the most widely used chiropractic manipulative technique. Dr. Christopher Brill utilizes this technique to help alleviate pain and properly align the spine. Its objective is to restore proper movement and alignment to the spine while also restoring joint function.

Dr. Brill will begin with an analysis of your spine. This will involve a case history and possibly X-rays of your spine. Once the area of pain is located and the malposition of one or more spinal bones is identified, a specific manual thrust is administered. The direction, speed, depth and angle of the adjustment that are used are the result of years of training, experience and a thorough understanding of spinal mechanics. The energy delivered during the thrust may produce a slight “popping” sound from the shifting of gas and fluids in the joint.

Radiculitis

Radiculitis is inflammation and possible damage to a nerve as it exits the spinal cord and progresses into the arm or leg. The most common cause of inflammation of the nerve root is an arthritic process or a tear in the disc or facet joint capsule that spills toxic joint fluid on the nerve. At Therapeutic Solutions LLC, we offer non-invasive, non-surgical treatment options for those suffering from radiculitis.

Unless there are concerns of nerve death or other permanent injury to the patient, the first step for treating radiculitis should be through conservative and not surgical intervention. As a chiropractic practice, it is our goal to alleviate pain without resorting to surgery. Non-Surgical treatment for radiculitis includes the following:
  • Heat and/or cold therapy
  • Exercises to help strengthen your back
  • Anti-inflammatory medications
  • Physical therapy combined with activity modification

Intersegmental Traction Tables

Intersegmental traction tables gently help reestablish the normal ranges of the body’s spine. These tables also help facilitate muscle relaxation and reduce muscle spasms. It has been shown that daily use of an intersegmental traction table greatly accelerates recovery progress from a back injury. We utilize this technology at Therapeutic Solutions LLC so our patients are not only comfortable while on the table, but they are actually working with them to improve their health.

When the spine's postural muscles (the muscles that hold you upright) are traumatized, or negatively impacted from an accident, injury, fatigue, or poor posture, spasms occur. Our intersegmental traction table carefully lengthens the postural muscles of your spine in a comfortable, even manner and allows normal joint motion, circulation and mobility to return.

During a 10-minute session, the intersegmental roller table interacts with your body in a massage-like fashion. The contact pressure can easily be adjusted to suit individual needs and sensitivities. Thanks to its quiet, unique and precision-patented motion design, the intersegmental traction table treats all body sizes, shapes, and weights equally and effectively, including children.

Facet Syndrome

For patients that are experiencing persistent, chronic pain in any part of your spine, from your neck to your lower back, you may be suffering from a condition called Facet Syndrome. This condition develops in the small joints located between each vertebra. This part of your spine is always in motion, providing the spine with both the stability and flexibility needed to perform any task where movement is necessary. Friction between the bones, however, leads to tenderness, swelling, stiffness and pain.

When it comes to diagnosing Facet Syndrome, it is important to work with a medical professional who specializes in spine health. As a chiropractor, Dr. Christopher Brill is trained extensively in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic back/neck pain. In most cases, symptoms are very similar to those of other conditions so it is very important to be properly diagnosed.

A condition like Facet Syndrome can be treated without surgery thanks to chiropractic care. Thanks to advanced non-surgical therapies that include adjustments and manipulations, we are able to lessen to pain and eventually correct the problem, relieving you completely of your pain.

Types of Disc Injuries

At Therapeutic Solutions, LLC, Dr. Christopher Brill and the rest of our team work tirelessly to educate our patients about their injury and all of their healing options. There are many forms of back injuries, but when it comes to disc injuries, treatment really depends on the type of injury you’ve sustained. We thought we’d explain a couple disc injuries so you know what to look for and hopefully better understand how chiropractic care can help ease the pain.

There are many different terms used to describe spinal disc injuries and associated pain. These terms include herniated disc, pinched nerve and bulging disc. Treatment for these conditions varies depending on the situation but they can often be corrected through spinal adjustments and manipulations.

A herniated disc refers to a problem with one of the discs between the vertebrae that stack up to make your spine. Spinal discs are often compared to a jelly donut because they have a softer center encased with a tough exterior. A herniated disc occurs when the softer “jelly” pushes out through a crack in the exterior. This condition often causes pain, numbness or weakness in the arms and legs. Pinched nerves are a direct result of a herniated disc as this injury produces pain called radicular pain (e.g., nerve root pain) leading to pain that may be referred to other parts of the body. Bulging discs are a very common condition treated by chiropractors and causes pain and discomfort in various parts of the body. Pressure from the central core of the disc can then stretch to the outer rim, causing the disc to bulge.

Acid Reflux

Acid reflux is a condition that affects millions of Americans. This health condition causes the contents of the stomach move back from the stomach into the esophagus. Many people will try and cure acid reflux with over-the-counter or prescription medication but in most cases, these medications only dull the symptoms rather than curing the condition. At Therapeutic Solutions LLC, Dr. Christopher Brill is able to cure patients from their acid reflux problems.

In many cases, acid reflux is causes by the failure of the cardia (where the stomach attaches to the esophagus) to keep the contents of the stomach from flowing back into the esophagus. The acids and enzymes contained within the stomach leak back into the esophagus where they cause irritation, burning and inflammation of the sensitive tissue lining the esophagus.

When the body’s spine and central nervous system are optimized and 100% healthy, all systems within the body perform correctly and without pain. When there are subluxations in the spine, the systems of the body are not able to function at peak levels which can lead to numerous health issues, including digestive problems such as acid reflux. As part of our overall care, we also provide patients with guidance on weight loss, improving diet and exercise plans. All of these elements are important in eliminating acid reflux and preventing it from returning.

Patients turn to chiropractic care because treatment involves no prescription drugs or surgery. It’s safe and effective, even for conditions like acid reflux.

Chiropractic for Children

Did you know that chiropractors regularly treat children? At Therapeutic Solutions, LLC we treat patients of all ages, but many do not realize that we treat children. Pediatric chiropractic existed for over 100 years and many childhood ailments will respond to this safe, natural form of health care. But why would a child even need chiropractic care? Children encounter many physical stresses during their growing years. This stress can cause problems in children’s spine and can occur at any point in their development.

Not only do children deal with the stresses of a growing body, but some are born with health complications. Many newborn children suffer complications like colic, reflux, breastfeeding difficulties, sleep disturbances and chronic infections. These problems are all associated with the nervous system and are often caused by spinal and cranial misalignments.

If you bring your child to Therapeutic Solutions in Newport News, VA, we will start by conducting a thorough history of your child’s health. We will then complete a physical exam, looking for any pediatric spinal problems. Each patient is a different case, especially in children, so Dr. Brill will tailor an individual treatment plan to help your child heal. We offer specific, gentle adjustments and manipulations to the child’s spine and cranium.

Treat Acid Reflux with Chiropractic

Acid reflux is a condition that occurs when your lower esophageal sphincter, a valve of muscle fibers where your esophagus and stomach meet, does not close properly. When this happens, the contents of your stomach, which includenaturally strong acids and enzymes used to break down food, can leak up into your esophagus and cause a burning pain in your chest, nausea and difficulty swallowing.

While medication can provide short term relief, chiropractic can provide long-lasting treatment. Dr. Christopher Brill uses chiropractic care to improve the overall health and function of his patients’ bodies, and he does this through spinal adjustments that keep all the systems of the body working properly. If there are interferences or misalignments in the spine, the systems of the body cannot function at peak levels, which leads to many different issues, including acid reflux.

In addition to adjustments, we provide patients with guidance on nutrition and lifestyle choices that can eliminate acid reflux and prevent its return. If your acid reflux is caused by a hiatal hernia, where the top part of the stomach pinches through the diaphragm muscle, Dr. Brill can treat that as well without drugs or surgery.

For more information visit our website at www.therapeutic-solutions-llc.com or feel free to contact Dr. Brill & staff at 757-873-4131.

How Can Chiropractic Help Piriformis Syndrome?

Located deep in the buttock, below the gluteus maximus, the piriformis muscle extends from the sacrum to the outer hip bone and is responsible for stabilizing the hip joint and lifting and rotating the thighs away from the body. Often confused with sciatica because it produces a similar pain in the lower back and into the legs, piriformis syndrome is caused when the piriformis muscle becomes shortened or tightened or when the muscle spasms and becomes inflamed. When inflamed, the muscle can put pressure on the sciatic nerve that runs beneath it. If you are experiencing pain, tingling or numbness in your lower back, buttocks and legs, Dr. Christopher Brill can relive your pain and restore you to health in Newport News, VA.

A common factor that leads to the development of piriformis syndrome is the performance of activities with excessive weight bearing, changing direction and running. This means that many athletes, namely runners and weight lifters, suffer from this condition. Externally rotating the hip for extended periods of time is another factor. This is most often seen in ballet dancers and those who walk with their feet turned outward. Misalignment of the pelvis bones can also be involved.

At Therapeutic Solutions, LLC, we can use trigger point therapy, adjustment, stretching and strengthening exercises combined with inferential electo-therapy and electrical muscle stimulation to treat piriformis syndrome. These therapies reduce spasms and tightness and help the muscle heal. If your syndrome is caused by the way you walk, foot orthotics may be necessary.

Ear Infections and Chiropractic

Ear infections are a common affliction, especially in children, and can be either bacterial or viral, often resulting from another illness, such as a cold. Infection can cause ear pain, fever and irritability, and if ear infections become a chronic issue, they can even cause hearing damage and associated speech and developmental problems in children. While ear infections tend to be treated with antibiotics in most cases, if the infections occur regularly, chiropractic can be a more effective and less harmful way to treat the condition, and Dr. Christopher Brill has the skills and experience to effectively help you.

Before you take another round of antibiotics or opt for surgery, schedule an appointment with our practice in Newport News, VA to relieve your pain. Studies have shown that regular chiropractic treatment can decrease the frequency of ear infections by mobilizing drainage of the ear and strengthening the immune system to recover quickly and prevent future infection. A study showed that 80 percent of participants did not contract another ear infection for the six months of the study.

Can Chiropractic Treat Colic?

Defined as a condition where well-fed infants cry inconsolably for more than three hours a day, for more than three days a week, for more than three weeks, colic is a condition with no known common cause. Typically affecting 10 to 20 percent of babies between three weeks and three months old, it could be caused by an intestinal gas or an obstruction in the intestines, reflux, hypersensitivity, an intense temperament or an immature nervous system. If your baby has colic, he or she will often have a piercing cry, flexed legs, tensed muscles and clenched fingers.

While there is not one single cause of colic, research has shown that chiropractic can benefit colicky babies no matter the cause of his or her condition. Chiropractic can have a greater impact than medication, dietary changes and infant positioning. Several studies have established spinal adjustments as an effective method for relieving colic after only a few sessions, and Dr. Christopher Brill is able to help you and your baby find relief in Newport News, VA.

At our office, the chiropractor provides conservative, gentle and successful adjustments that are not only safe but incredibly beneficial for infants with colic. By making sure the spine is properly aligned, the chiropractor is ensuring that the nervous system and immune system can function at peak levels, which helps in colic relief.

Frozen Shoulder

Shoulders are ball-and-sockets joints consisting of three bones—the humerus (upper arm), scapula (shoulder blade) and clavicle (collar bone). The head of the humerus fits into a shallow socket in the shoulder blade and is surrounded and supported by strong connective tissues that make up the shoulder capsule. Frozen shoulder occurs when the shoulder capsule thickens and becomes tight, causing pain and stiffness. This condition develops in three stages:

  •  Freezing. Lasting between six weeks to nine months, this first stage involves a gradual increase in pain and stiffness. As the pain increases over time, your shoulder will become difficult to move.
  • Frozen. Pain may actually decrease during this stage, but the stiffness will remain for four to six months.
  • Thawing. Shoulder motion will slowly improve along with return to normal strength and motion. A full thaw can take anywhere from six months to two years.

Receiving early treatment for frozen shoulder is the best way to prevent stiffness and to stop your condition from becoming more serious, and at Therapeutic Solutions LLC, we use conservative chiropractic treatments to reduce symptoms and restore function to the shoulder joint. By adjusting the spine and then the shoulder, we can alleviate your pain and increase your range of motion. Repeated treatment combined with at-home exercises has proven to be very effective.

    Spinal Stenosis

If you’re experiencing lower-back pain, loss of feeling in your legs or a limp, you may have spinal stenosis, a degenerative condition that affects the spine. Symptoms are caused by a narrowing of the spinal canal, which can occur for multiple reasons, including thickened ligaments, a spreading infection, abscess, a congenital anomaly, degenerative changes or vertebral dislocations. While the painful and debilitating condition is chronic and without a cure, at Therapeutic Solutions LLC we can help you manage your pain, reduce symptoms and improve your quality of life.

Discomfort caused by stenosis builds gradually, separating the condition from others, such as herniated discs, which can have similar symptoms that appear much more rapidly. The treatment for stenosis usually depends on its cause. While medical doctors recommend pain medications and even surgery to provide pain relief, medication can have strong side effects and surgery only temporarily removes pain.

Conservative chiropractic care, on the other hand, is non-invasive and can lessen pain and discomfort, while maintaining joint mobility and allowing the patient to live a reasonable lifestyle for longer. By using spinal manipulation and other holistic methods, chiropractic can reduce pain and increase mobility, while at home exercises are effective for stretching and strengthening the lower back.

    Chiropractic and Fertility

Bodies are amazing networks of interacting systems that work together to accomplish many tasks, including the creation of life, and the nervous system is the master, coordinating and affecting all other systems. Chiropractic operates on the belief that maintaining a healthy spine promotes the health of the entire body. By removing misalignment and interruptions from the nervous system, which communicates to the body via passageways that travel through the spine, chiropractic can help the body perform as it was meant to. This means that chiropractic treatment can improve the function of all systems in the body, including the reproductive system.

In many cases, fertility issues stem from poor nervous system function, high stress and lifestyle habits. At Therapeutic Solutions LLC, we can reduce interference in the nervous system by adjusting the spine and maintaining proper alignment. Once the nervous system is allowed to function better, the body is better able to heal itself and function more efficiently, which can help increase fertility.

It is also important to know that chiropractic care is compatible with other accepted approaches to resolving infertility and can greatly improve the chances of successful procedures, including in vitro fertilization.

    Rotator Cuff Tears

One of the most common injuries to occur in the shoulder is a tear in the rotator cuff, which is a group of four muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder to provide movement and stability. The tendons from these muscles attach to the top of the humerus, and this is where most tears occur, although muscles are sometimes involved.  Rotator cuff tears can be caused by direct blows to the shoulder, by falling on the arm while it is outstretched and by having your arm yanked. Impingement (tendinitis), where the rotator cuff tendons rub against the shoulder blade, can also lead the rotator cuff to become inflamed, fray and weaken.

People most susceptible to these injuries include swimmers, tennis players, baseball players and other participants in activities that involve a lot of arm movement overhead. Your risk for injury is also higher if you are over the age of 40 since muscles and tendons lose elasticity as you age.

If you have torn your rotator cuff, we can help you heal without the need for steroid injections or surgery. Here at Therapeutic Solutions LLC in Newport News, VA, we use therapies, such as electrical muscle stimulation and inferential electro-therapy, to promote healing and reduce pain and inflammation. Additionally, chiropractic adjustments and targeted exercises can be used to restore mobility and range of movement. In about six to eight weeks, you will notice a significant improvement.

    Degenerative Disc Disease

As you age, the cumulative effect of daily stresses and occasional, unnoticed injuries begins to take a toll on your spine. While the gradual degeneration of the spinal discs may not cause a problem for many people, in some cases, you can experience chronic, debilitating pain. This condition is called degenerative disc disease (DDD), and it can cause major back pain. If you have DDD and back pain is a main symptom, Therapeutic Solutions LLC, Chiropractic and Wellness can help you manage your pain.

Back pain as a result of DDD can be caused by three factors. The first is that degeneration in the spinal joints may have disturbed the alignment and mechanics of the spine. Secondly, thinning and degenerative discs might be bulging and placing pressure on nerves in the spine. Thirdly, spinal stenosis (the narrowing of the spine) can cause back and leg pain. Dr. Christopher Brill will work to discover what the specific cause of your back pain is so that he can develop the best chiropractic treatment for managing your pain. Using chiropractic, the doctor will work to improve joint mechanics, improve spinal motion and reduce inflammation.

To help treat your DDD symptoms, Dr. Brill may choose to adjust your spine, provide trigger point therapy, manually stretch your joints, conduct therapeutic massage or provide instrument-assisted soft tissue therapy. By combining these chiropractic treatments, he can alleviate the pain associated with degenerative disc disease.

    Tendonitis

Whether you have tennis elbow, runner’s knee or pitcher’s shoulder, if you have tendonitis, you want relief. Characterized by soreness, aching and chronic discomfort, tendonitis is caused when a tendon is overused, used improperly or injured. If you have tendonitis, Therapeutic Solutions LLC has the natural approach to help your body heal and prevent future injury.

Dr. Christopher Brill has the experience and expertise to provide the quality chiropractic you need to effectively treat your tendonitis. Rather than treating just your symptoms, chiropractic addresses the root cause of the condition. Initially, the chiropractor may choose to support and protect the injured tendons with a brace to loosen the tendon and reduce inflammation. Other treatments might include ultrasound, icing the area, rest, electrical muscle stimulation, strengthening exercises, massage and manual trigger point therapy. Manual trigger point therapy is when firm pressure is applied by hand on a trigger point for several seconds. The muscle is then stretched afterward. With chiropractic treatment, pain and inflammation should decrease over several weeks, although full healing will not occur until at least six weeks have passed.

During the first few weeks of treatment, scar tissue will form to help bond the tissue back together, but the scar tissue must be broken down for the tendon to regain flexibility, which will help prevent future injury. Continued chiropractic can ensure that the scar tissue is broken down and that circulation is increased to the tissue.

If you’re experiencing tendonitis pain, it’s time to start the healing process without reliance on pain killers. For more information visit our website at www.therapeutic-solutions-llc.com or feel free to contact Dr. Brill and staff at 757-873-4131.

    Fibromyalgia

Although between 3 and 6 percent of Americans are reported to have fibromyalgia, it still remains a rather mysterious syndrome. Fibromyalgia is typically characterized by widespread pain in all four quadrants of the body for more than three months, by tenderness or pain in at least 11 points when pressure is applied or by a combination of other symptoms. These other symptoms include fatigue, chronic headaches, jaw pain, sleep disorders, dizziness, impaired memory, irritable bowels, sensitive skin, morning stiffness, muscle pain after exertion and menstrual cramping. While there are some disorders, such as anemia, Lyme disease, hormonal imbalances and allergies, that can cause fibromyalgia-like symptoms, if no underlying cause is found, then Therapeutic Solutions LLC, Chiropractic and Wellness Center can help relieve your symptoms with chiropractic care.

Chiropractic care has consistently been ranked as one of the best therapies for fibromyalgia. By combining chiropractic and massage therapy, ultrasound and electrical stimulation, Dr. Christopher Brill can help relieve stress, pain and other symptoms in fibromyalgia sufferers. In addition, he can help recommend other natural treatments that you can do at home to relieve the symptoms.

    Slipped Disc

Many of the patients we see here at Therapeutic Solutions LLC, Chiropractic and Wellness Center are seeking treatment for a slipped, or herniated, disc in their back. While commonly referred to as a slipped disc, this condition actually occurs when the disc, which is the soft cushion between each of the vertebrae in your spine, ruptures or splits. This can happen as a part of natural degeneration over time or if the discs become dehydrated and brittle. Whichever the reason, chiropractic provides a safe and non-invasive treatment for this condition.

If you are experiencing neck pain, back pain, stiffness, tingling, weakness or other symptoms that a doctor has diagnosed as a symptom of a slipped disc, receiving chiropractic treatment can help. Typically, treatment involves manual manipulation and adjustments. Dr. Christopher Brill will use his hands to gently flex the spinal joints to stimulate the surrounding nerves and tissue that are causing the pain. This will help increase range of motion and decrease pain and other symptoms of a herniated disc.

You don’t have to rely on pain killers or resort to surgery immediately. With the help of chiropractic you can relieve pain and heal naturally. For more information visit our website at www.therapeutic-solutions-llc.com or feel free to contact Dr. Brill & staff at 757-873-4131.

    Scoliosis

Here at Therapeutic Solutions LLC, we treat not just pain and discomfort following traumas or injuries, but chronic conditions like scoliosis as well. When a patient has scoliosis, he or she has an abnormal curving of the spine that can be very painful. According to the National Scoliosis Foundation, approximately 6 million people in the United States are suffering from scoliosis, leading many of them to seek chiropractic treatment for the condition.

The common symptoms of patients with scoliosis include lower back pain, feeling fatigue in the spine when standing or sitting for long periods of time, having uneven shoulders or hips, a spine that curves more to one side or the other, or another type of abnormal curving of the spine. At our Newport News, VA chiropractic clinic, we first provide a physical exam and take x-rays before diagnosing patients with scoliosis.

Treatment for scoliosis depends on a number of factors, including where the spinal curve is, the severity of the condition, the probable cause, and if the patient’s body is still growing. For patients who are adolescents and their body is still growing, we recommend they wear a back brace. This helps their spine grow in straighter by the time their body has finished growing. For adult patients, we utilize several treatments, including back braces and surgery.

    Asthma

Asthma is a common disease that causes chest tightness, coughing, difficulty breathing, and wheezing. It can impact a person’s quality of life, especially when they experience an asthma attack. According to the Centers for Disease Control, about 1 in 12 people have asthma, and many asthma attacks among them can be prevented.

Individuals with asthma experience their symptoms at different times, with things like the poor air quality and allergens worsening their symptoms or triggering an asthma attack. Even exercise and weather can be an asthma trigger. At Therapeutic Solutions LLC, we provide chiropractic care for treating asthma in order to help patients find some relief from their symptoms.

When a patient has chronic asthma, his or her muscles surrounding their airways are inflamed and constricted. This inflammation and narrowing of the airways causes the tell-tale asthma symptoms of chest tightness, coughing, shortness of breath, and wheezing.

But when the vertebrae is properly aligned through treatments like chiropractic adjustments and manipulations, we have found that the muscles in the bronchial that cause asthma symptoms can show improved functioning. Relaxation techniques, including acupuncture, breathing exercises, and massage can also be helpful.

    Electrical Muscle Stimulation

At Therapeutic Solutions LLC, Chiropractic and Wellness Center, we believe in offering our patients options when it comes to treating pain. For example, we offer electrical muscle stimulation in order to treat muscle spasms and a variety of soft tissue injuries to the extremities and spine.

Electrical muscle stimulation works by delivering small, therapeutic doses of electrical current to the injured or painful area of the body. Although you may feel a mild tingling, most patients find electrical muscle stimulation comfortable.

When applied to the body, the electric current helps release trigger points, which can reduce muscle spasms. In addition, electrical muscle stimulation can stimulate the body’s natural pain reducing capabilities. The procedure can block pain nerve signals and also promote the release of endorphins, which help decrease discomfort. Electrical muscle stimulation can be used to treat both chronic and acute causes of pain.
Dr. Christopher Brill and our team at Therapeutic Solutions LLC, Chiropractic and Wellness Center strive to provide exceptional chiropractic care. Our goal is to help improve your health and wellbeing. We offer convenient appointment times and free consolations.

For more information on electrical muscle stimulation or to schedule an appointment, please call Therapeutic Solutions LLC, Chiropractic and Wellness at 757-873-4131 and visit us at www.therapeutic-solutions-llc.com.

    Inferential Electro-Therapy

Most people will develop a muscle strain or spasm at some point in their lifetime. Before you reach for medication to treat sprains, strains and muscle spasms, consider the alternatives. Interferential electro-therapy can be an effective way to treat soft tissue injuries and sprains.

Dr. Christopher Brill and our team at Therapeutic Solutions LLC, Chiropractor and Wellness Center are experienced at treating injuries with interferential electro-therapy and will be happy to answer your questions. Interferential electro-therapy works by applying a low frequency electrical signal to stimulate the muscle and reduce pain.

Interferential electro-therapy works in a few different ways. As it stimulates the muscle, it can reduce swelling and increase blood flow to the area. In addition, interferential electro-therapy can also stimulate the production and release of endorphins, which are the body’s natural pain relievers.

Therapeutic Solutions LLC, Chiropractor and Wellness Center offers a wide variety of chiropractic services including cryotherapy and electrical muscle stimulation. We are experienced in treating sports related injuries, conditions due to car accidents and job related injuries. We are happy to provide you with a free consultation.

For more information on interferential electro-therapy or any of our services, please call Therapeutic Solutions LLC, Chiropractor and Wellness Center at 757-873-4131 and visit us at www.therapeutic-solutions-llc.com.

    Bursitis

Many of our patients visit our chiropractic office here in Newport News because of pain in their shoulder or elbows. This is often the result of a condition called bursitis, which occurs when the pads cushioning the bones and tendons, called bursae, become inflamed.

Bursitis happens most often in the shoulders, hip and elbow, but it can also affect other parts of the body, like the heel or knee. While bursitis can go away on its own, Dr. Christopher Brill recommends patients visit him to get quicker treatment and relief.

The main symptom for bursitis is pain in the affected area, though loss of motion and frozen shoulder also occurs. Treatments provided here at Therapeutic Solutions LLC for bursitis are varied and based on our patient’s comfort level and how severe their pain is.

Treatments for bursitis include adjustments and manipulations, therapeutic massage, physical therapy, and corticosteroid injections for reducing inflammation. We also offer recommendations for proper diet and regular exercise. Surgery is usually only needed in severe cases where the bursae needs to be drained.
If you suspect that you or a loved one has bursitis and you are interested inscheduling an appointment, please call Therapeutic Solutions LLC, Chiropractic and Wellness Center at 757-873-4131 or feel free to visit us on our website atwww.therapeutic-solutions-llc.com.
