Chiropractic Treatment For Vertigo

Vertigo is the term often used to describe dizziness associated with an illusion of movement, often a spinning sensation. It can be caused by problems in the brain or the inner ear. You never know when you'll be caught off guard by vertigo, but when this happens, there are several ways that Dr. Christopher Brill can treat you.

Treatment for vertigo depends on what's causing it. In many cases, vertigo goes away without any treatment. This is because your brain is able to adapt, at least in part, to the inner ear changes, relying on other mechanisms to maintain balance. However, vertigo can often be treated with manipulation as well as positioning maneuvers and exercises. If the source of a patient's vertigo appears to be the inner ear, Dr. Christopher Brill may assist him or her through a specific procedure to attempt to reposition the debris to a more innocuous position.

Ergonomics

Many Americans spend at least 40 hours a week sitting in an office in front of a computer. Many of these workers will start to experience certain chronic conditions like neck or back pains, carpal tunnel syndrome, numbness in the limbs, etc. because of poor posture in the workplace. If you suffer from any of these chronic conditions, visit us at Therapeutic Solutions LLC to learn more about your treatment options.

Many people who are hunched over or slouching in their chairs experience neck pains from staring at the monitor all day, and feel numbness in the low-back from sitting. Other common ailments are headaches, weakness in the legs, and wrist and/or elbow pain. There are a few things you can do to prevent these pains from occurring so frequently, or even stop them altogether. Here are some tips to improving your posture at work:

  • Take a break: take mini-breaks throughout the day to stretch out your arms and legs

  • Set yourself up for success: create a desk space that works for your posture, not against it. Your body and legs should create a 90 to 110 degree angle and your feet should be able to touch the floor

  • Keep your head up: try keeping your head forward and your neck in alignment when you are working. The top of your monitor should be level with your eyes as well

If you feel that your work environment isn’t good for your posture, try taking some steps to improve your work lifestyle. During your consultation with Dr. Christopher Brill, make sure to ask what steps you can take to improve your posture throughout your everyday life.

Wellness Tips

The motions of daily life, if done incorrectly, can result in injury to the spine. According to the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) wellness is defined as “an active process that promotes health and enhances quality of life.” We all stand, sit, lift, sleep, talk on the phone and partake in some sort of physical activity on a daily basis and at Therapeutic Solutions LLC; Dr. Christopher Brill wants his patients to utilize wellness tips so that they can add potential to their everyday lives.

When sitting, choose a chair that is firm enough to support you comfortably, and don’t slouch. When standing, stand with your head level. When you have to stand in one place for long periods of time, put one foot on a 4-6-inch stool to help keep pressure off your spine. If you work at desk, be sure to take frequent stretch breaks if you have to sit for a long time. When lifting an object, plant your feet about 12-18 inches apart, kneel or squat in front of the object, and lift as you straighten up. Be sure to lift with the big muscles of your thighs, arms, and shoulders, not with your back. When using the telephone, avoid cradling the receiver between your neck and shoulder. Hold the phone in your hand or use speakerphone instead. Be sure to get plenty of sleep every day to allow your body to rest and recuperate.

These are only a few wellness tips. For more information about wellness tips, visit our website at www.therapeutic-solutions-llc.com or feel free to contact Dr. Brill & staff at 757-873-4131.

Migraines and Chiropractic Treatment

Migraine is a type of headache that is often localized in a certain area of the head and is sometimes accompanied by a pronounced sensitivity to light and sound. Migraines can last up to 4-72 hours if untreated and additional symptoms include nausea and/or vomiting. People with migraines tend to have recurring attacks triggered by a number of different factors, including stress, anxiety, hormonal changes, bright or flashing lights, lack of food or sleep, and dietary substances. At Therapeutic Solutions LLC, Dr. Christopher Brill knows how tension in the spine relates to problems in other parts of the body, and can help you take steps to relieve those problems.

Research shows that spinal manipulation – the primary form of care provided by doctors of chiropractic – may be an effective treatment option for tension headaches and headaches that originate in the neck. At Therapeutic Solutions LLC, Dr. Christopher Brill may perform a spinal manipulation or chiropractic adjustment to improve spinal function and alleviate the stress on your system. He may also provide nutritional advice, recommending a change in diet and perhaps the addition of B complex vitamins.

If you suffer from migraines, don’t suffer any longer and schedule a consultation to discuss your treatment options. For more information visit our website at www.therapeutic-solutions-llc.com or feel free to contact Dr. Brill & staff at 757-873-4131.

Backpack Misuse Related to Spine Problems

School is almost in session and for kids and adults who carry heavy backpacks they may not realize that the substantial weight from textbooks can provoke spinal complications and strain the back, neck, or shoulders. At Therapeutic Solutions LLC, Dr. Christopher Brill wants patients to learn how to carry their items in a practical way, distributing the heavy load across the strong back and shoulder muscles.

When walking through the hallways, it is important to consider some tips. Always use both shoulder straps and wear the backpack on the back rather than over one shoulder. Pack heaviest objects into the backpack first so they are carried lower and closest to the body. Fill compartments so that the load is evenly distributed throughout the backpack and items do not shift during movement. If a child complains of discomfort, reduce the weight in the backpack immediately consider applying a guideline backpack weight limit as a percent of the child's body weight. The American Physical Therapy Association suggests 15-20%; the American Chiropractic Association advises 5-10%.

If you or your child experiences any pain or discomfort resulting from backpack use, call us to discuss your treatment options. For more information visit our website at www.therapeutic-solutions-llc.com or feel free to contact Dr. Brill & staff at 757-873-4131.
