Sports Injuries

When it comes to recovering from a sports-related injury, we know that your goal isn’t just to relieve the pain temporarily, you want to kick it for good. Dr. Christopher Brill helps patients reach that goal through various chiropractic procedures that not only heal pain, but help prevent any further injury from occurring.

It doesn’t matter if you are a professional athlete or just someone who likes to exercise; Dr. Brill has the tools necessary to fix any number of sports-related injuries. Many studies have shown that chiropractic care is able treat an injured athlete more effectively that a medical doctor. Unlike a medical doctor, chiropractors are trained to see the human body as one entity rather than seeing one injury at a time. This allows chiropractors to have a better understanding of the body as a whole, leading to less recurring injuries in the future.

There a number of injuries associated with athletes. According to the American Chiropractic Association, the most commonly injured areas of the body are the ankles, knees, shoulders, elbows and spine. Spinal injuries are by far the most concerning. The Global Burden of Disease 2010 did a study that showed that lower back pain is the single leading cause of disability worldwide. Spinal injuries are very treatable, especially with a chiropractor.

Without doubt, competing athletes or even the weekend warrior who wants to be at their very best should consider regular chiropractic care for the competitive edge. Not only will it help the body function at an improved level, chiropractic care is good for overall health. Through chiropractic manipulations, Dr. Brill can increase blood flow for quicker post-performance relief, decrease stress and improve the immune system.

Chiropractic and Exercise

Combining chiropractic care with home exercise is a great way to improve your health and increase your overall wellness. Whether you are suffering from a chronic condition or just hoping to maximize your body’s potential, Dr. Christopher Brill of Therapeutic Solutions LLC can help you develop an exercise plan for better health.

Exercise has many benefits, especially when combined with chiropractic treatment. Many studies have shown that it is an effective way to manage both acute and chronic lower back pain and other conditions, helping patients to keep working while improving their overall quality of life. In addition to helping with injuries, regular home exercise also keeps the muscles in proper tone, promotes circulation and can help your body function better as a whole.

Strengthening your muscles has direct and indirect benefits on your health, including increasing your ease of movement, improving posture and stabilizing your joints, as well as decreasing your risk of falls and injuries. Including exercise as one of his 12 rules for longevity, Dr. Brill recommends at least 15 minutes of exercise a day.

Frozen Shoulder

Shoulders are ball-and-sockets joints consisting of three bones—the humerus (upper arm), scapula (shoulder blade) and clavicle (collar bone). The head of the humerus fits into a shallow socket in the shoulder blade and is surrounded and supported by strong connective tissues that make up the shoulder capsule. Frozen shoulder occurs when the shoulder capsule thickens and becomes tight, causing pain and stiffness. This condition develops in three stages:

  •  Freezing. Lasting between six weeks to nine months, this first stage involves a gradual increase in pain and stiffness. As the pain increases over time, your shoulder will become difficult to move.
  • Frozen. Pain may actually decrease during this stage, but the stiffness will remain for four to six months.
  • Thawing. Shoulder motion will slowly improve along with return to normal strength and motion. A full thaw can take anywhere from six months to two years.

Receiving early treatment for frozen shoulder is the best way to prevent stiffness and to stop your condition from becoming more serious, and at Therapeutic Solutions LLC, we use conservative chiropractic treatments to reduce symptoms and restore function to the shoulder joint. By adjusting the spine and then the shoulder, we can alleviate your pain and increase your range of motion. Repeated treatment combined with at-home exercises has proven to be very effective.
